The drainage system is clogged with garbage causes flash floods

MIRI: Heavy rain all day in Miri City caused several housing areas and villages hit by flash floods. Heavy rains and high tide that swept the coastal areas also affected the village of Batu Satu and several nearby villages.

There are residents who have to be relocated while waiting for the low tide, particularly those who live near the coast. There were also houses and vehicles damaged by flash floods as they did not have time to save their vehicle from being caught in the flood.

Flash floods also hit several areas in Pujut especially Pujut Padang Kerbau where residents had complained of a clogged drainage full of garbage and stagnant water spilling out of the ditch and went into their houses.

Previously, there was a rare flash flood in their residential area but this time it was quite bad because they had to be careful when it was heavy rain as they were confident that as long as the drainage trench was full of rubbish and it was not cleaned it will flash floods can happen at any time.

We urge the authorities and those concerned immediately clean up rubbish and deepen the trenches in areas that are affected. Those who live near the river or canal should keep clean and not throw garbage into drains or rivers to avoid the ditch clogged with garbage and waste.

We urge all parties involved to work together and to maintain the cleanliness of their residences from the threat of infectious diseases and flash floods due to irregular waste disposal.

Once again, we urge that the responsible party in the relevant business, immediately clean up the affected areas to avoid flash floods and infectious diseases. Cooperation with the relevant parties is highly appreciated.
