Warga emas hidup terpinggir dalam rumah usang
MIRI – Walaupun
meneruskan kehidupan harian beliau.
rumah usang beliau. Sungguh menyedihkan kerana katanya memang ada wakil rakyat
berjanji hendak menolong beliau tetapi janji hanya tinggal janji.

Senior
citizens living marginalized in dilapidated houses
MIRI – Although Miri
city is rapidly developing but there are still some poor people such as senior
citizens who live marginalized from the mainstream of development.
As a result of
house price is too expensive and difficult owned by low-income earners, they
have continued to live in relatively poor condition.
An elderly, better
known as Uncle Dol Seman 87 year’s old living in Pangkalan Lutong still live in
relatively poor conditions.
His house is so
dilapidated, the floor was rotting and the roof a lot of leaking. The situation in his house is also very sad where
the kitchen of his house should be repaired immediately.
He lives with her
younger sister who was still a virgin. Uncle Dol had no fixed income only hope
for assistance from charities to continue his daily life.
They have lived
there for decades and he ever applied for assistance from government agencies
to rebuild the floor and the leaking roof of his home but so far have yet to
receive assistance from the relevant government agencies.
Although many
people knew him because he was still healthy and always hang out with the community
but his house condition nobody take notice. There was no electricity and they also had to
use firewood for cooking because there is no gas supply for their cooking.
We have been
visiting uncle Dol at the Pangkalan Lutong recently and see the condition of
his dilapidated house. It is sad because he said there were representatives
promised to help him but the promise remained only a promise.
Although there are
those of charities such as the Baitulmal provide monthly assistance but it was
just enough to survive for their siblings. They can be categorized as the
poorest people in the suburbs.
What they need is a
home that is more comfortable and safe place to stay. The PPRT (Development
Program for the Extremely Poor) can help rebuild a new home for their family.
Once again we urge
the relevant government agencies should immediately come to visit and help
rebuild the house for the safety of the elderly who live in the house.
The government also
needs to provide special assistance to senior citizens who have no heirs and
build a home that suits with their circumstances. Cooperation with all relevant
parties to resolve the issue quickly is greatly appreciated.
