Saliran air tersumbat menyebabkan kawasan pertanian dilanda banjir

Water drainage blocked causes agricultural areas hit by floods

MIRI – Daily rains in Miri City have caused many gardeners to complain that their crops are depleted because of stagnant water in their crops. They complained that the drain along the Pan Borneo Highway in the South Lake area of Permyjaya was overgrown with grass that blocked the flow of water to the river Miri.

The drains should be cleaned so that the water from the crop area flows easily and their plants will not be flooded with stagnant water during the rainy season. Now the season picks up the crop and many of the damaged fruit is submerged in stagnant water.

The gardeners have appealed to local authorities to immediately clean up and deepen the drainage along the Pan Borneo Highway in the South Lake area. They had been working all months to get their products and by the time of harvest about half their crops had been destroyed by stagnant water.

They have long been confined by the Movement Control Order (MCO) and, of course, want the results they produce to ease their burden by selling their crops.

We urge the authorities to take immediate action to clear the full drainage of grass along the road in the agricultural area to allow water to flow into nearby rivers. Collaboration with local authorities is essential to resolve this issue immediately is very much appreciated.
